With the ever-evolving needs of people, the design has evolved as well. It has come a long way from cave paintings to virtual reality graphics. But you may wonder, how far will it go?

Advancement in Design Technology
As digital media have become more prevalent in this century, continuous attempts have been made to make it more user-friendly and interactive. UX and UI design (User Experience and User Interface, respectively) are a few steps towards it. The way a consumer would perceive and respond to a certain web commodity (product or service) can be nuanced through UX and UI design. It is the front end of a commodity, interacting with the consumer.
Where UX and UI design are aimed to enhance the user experience or perception, another innovative sector is Virtual Reality. Creating built environments virtually, it allows the user to have the experience of varied spaces. Closely linked to it, is the gaming industry. From Joysticks to VR, the center of gaming has shifted. VR helps stimulate a virtual environment that would “teleport” the user into virtual reality. So now you can be in a post-apocalyptic world or the wild Amazon forests!

Artificial Intelligence and machine learning will also save us from the scrutiny and intricate detailing in designs. But don’t worry if you feel unacquainted with these, a vast variety of courses and lectures are available on these, on various E-learning platforms like Udemy, Coursera, edX, Skillshare, etc. Who knows as we advance into the future, maybe these will have their academic discipline!

Science is not exclusive to this future of design. Recently, Bjarke Ingles Group, an architecture firm has proposed design for a simulation centre, called Mars Science City, (near Dubai) where scientists can undertake researches in simulation, to study the possibility of settlement on Mars. This design will hence influence the question being asked for decades, life on another planet.

Different User Organisations
The futuristic design developments may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but surely will be incriminated in their daily lives.
With world tending towards such evolution of art, designers may increase as now all will have equal opportunity and the same platform to showcase their viewpoints. But in such a situation, curating will trend more than creating. But one must remember that design comes from within, and design software and digital media are mere tools to help speed up the process and reduce human effort, as Milton Glaser said, “Computers are to design as microwaves are to cooking.”
And new feats of not only design but overall human endeavour may be achieved. A surge in the involvement of the masses, in the evolving technologies, creates an optimistic future for the tech-savvy.
The design has changed over time, and will continue to do so, as it is what you want it to be, what you make it!
